Mara Furlow joined Apellis in March 2019 as our Vice President of Regulatory. Mara is responsible for defining and implementing the regulatory strategy for Apellis’ hematology and nephrology programs. Mara’s career within the biotech/pharma industry has focused on rare diseases and novel therapeutic approaches. Prior to joining Apellis, Mara was the head of R&D Due Diligence and Technical Assessment at Shire Pharmaceuticals, and she previously held senior positions in regulatory affairs at Shire, Amicus Therapeutics, and Cato Research. Mara received her MS in biochemistry from Duke University and BS in biology from The George Washington University, and earned her Regulatory Affairs Certification in 2000.
